Be sure and check out the boxes placed by others located
along this route.
Rim of the World Drive is accessed by taking the 215 fwy North to the
30 fwy - Mountain Resorts. You will soon see the off ramp for Highway
18, otherwise known as Waterman Avenue - take that towards Crestline and
Lake Arrowhead.
After you get both the Mormon Lumber
and the Rim
of the World boxes, keep heading past Crestline towards Lake
Arrowhead. As you draw near the turn-off for Arrowhead, on the right
you'll see a picnic area located at the crest of the mountains. The
picnic area is aptly named "Crest Park Picnic Area" and the
view is well worth staying for a picnic.
Drive into the area and park near the restrooms - enjoy those, they
are posh compared to the ones you'll find at the Rock
Camp site. Face those wonders of modern technology and, trying not
to look like a fool, stick your left arm straight out to your side at a
90-degree angle to your body and point with your first finger. Look down
your finger and you'll see a marker placed there by the Rotary Club.
There is a bush mid-way between you and the marker - ignore the
shrubbery. It's the marker you want to head for. Face the marker and
again, trying not to look like a fool, stick your left arm out to your
side at a 90-degree angle to your body and point with your first finger.
You should be pointing at the box. Looking down your finger, you'll see
the center island area and within it, a lone pine tree standing proud.
The box is buried at the base of that stately tree under some pine
needles and assorted forest matter.
